Looking for fun ways for kids to have fun with the ABC’s and 123’s? What if we told you that your kids can be entertained and learn a thing or two with letters and numbers right in the kitchen all while making lunch?
We don’t recommend playing with food, so not to worry because the kids won’t be. What they will be having fun with is the bag filled with letter and number cookie cutters!
Before the kids begin to assemble and cut the English muffin sandwiches, you can have a math and spelling session with the letter and number cookie cutters. Fill a bag with all the letters and numbers. Have each child reach in and randomly select 8 cookie cutters. If they select random letters, have them try to spell a word or as many words that they can with the letters that they select. If the options are limited, have them select 2 more cookie cutters. If they select random numbers, give them a math equation with the numbers that they select. It’s a fun way to learn right in the kitchen while making it fun.
You can keep mixing up the letter and numbers for a few rounds before jumping in to make English muffin sandwiches!
English Muffin Sandwiches
- 4 English muffins
- 4 teaspoons mustard
- 4 teaspoons mayonnaise
- 8 slices of cheese
- 8 slices of deli meat
- Toast the English muffins.
- On one half of the English muffins spread the mustard, and on the other half of the English muffins spread the mayonnaise.
- Layer each sandwich with 2 slices of cheese and 2 slices of deli meat.
*Once the sandwiches are assembled and the letters and numbers are cut, put the sandwiches back together like a puzzle. This way no part of the sandwiches go to waste and the kids are able to eat both pieces of the puzzle.
