Ingredients

4 slices whole-wheat bread

3 large strawberries, hulled and thinly sliced

4 teaspoons sugar, divided

1 cup plain low-fat Greek yogurt

1 large egg, beaten

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 teaspoon honey (optional)

3 basil leaves, thinly sliced

Preparation

01Heat the oven to 400 F.
02On a small baking sheet, place bread slices.
03Use the back of a spoon to press down the middle of each bread slice to the edge of the crust.
04In a small mixing bowl, combine sliced strawberries with 1/2 teaspoon of sugar. Set aside.
05In another small mixing bowl, combine remaining 1 1/2 teaspoons of sugar, Greek yogurt, egg, and vanilla until combined.
06Pour yogurt mixture evenly into each prepared slice of bread. Top each with strawberries, and bake in the preheated oven for approximately 10 minutes, or until custard is set and bread is toasted.
07Remove from the oven, and top each toast with a drizzle of honey, if using, and sprinkle with basil.
