Ingredients for Challah French Toast

1 challah

6 large eggs

3 cups whole milk

1 teaspoon Vanilla

1 cup packed brown sugar, divided into 3/4 cup and 1/4 cup

1/2 stick of unsalted butter

1 cup walnuts, chopped

2 cups apples, chopped

Ingredients for Apple Syrup

1 cup apples, chopped

1/2 cup pure maple syrup

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

Preparation

01Cut challah into large cubes and arrange in one layer in a 9”x13” baking dish.
02In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, and 3/4 cup of brown sugar. Pour evenly over bread.
03Chill mixture, covered, until all liquid is absorbed by bread, at least 8 hours, flip halfway.
04Remove bread mixture from the refrigerator and preheat the oven to 400 F.
05While your oven heats, melt butter in a small saucepan with the remaining 1/4 cup of brown sugar until combined.
06Drizzle butter mixture over the bread and top with chopped walnuts and apples. Bake for approximately 30 minutes covered with foil, then remove the foil and bake another 10-15 minutes until golden brown.
07While your French toast bakes, prepare your apple syrup ingredients.
08In a small saucepan, cook apples and maple syrup until the apples are soft. Stir in fresh lemon juice.
09Serve your challah French toast with a drizzle of warm apple syrup.
