About Sahlab (Pudding Drink)

Warm up with a comforting cup of Sahlab, a traditional Middle Eastern drink that’s as soothing as it is flavorful. This creamy, velvety beverage is made from a blend of milk, heavy cream, sugar, cornstarch, and rosewater, which gives it a unique, thickened texture. Fragranced with hints of vanilla, our Sahlab is garnished with a sprinkle of edible dry rose pedals, adding a touch of elegance to each sip. Perfect for chilly evenings or as a cozy treat, this classic drink is a delightful way to experience the rich culinary traditions of the Middle East.

Ingredients

1/4 cup rose water

1/4 cup cornstarch

3 cups milk

1 cup heavy cream

1 pinch salt

1 tablespoon vanilla

1/2 cup sugar

1 tablespoon dry edible rose petals

Preparation

01In a small bowl, mix rose water and cornstarch. Set aside.
02In a large saucepan over medium heat mix milk, heavy cream, salt, vanilla, and sugar.
03Continue stirring until the mixture comes to a simmer. Reduce to low heat to prevent mixture bubbling over.
04Using a whisk, stir in cornstarch mixture. Stir constantly on medium-low heat until custard begins to bubble.
05Remove sahlab from heat and pour into small glasses or mugs.
06Garnish with rose petals and serve warm.
