Ingredients

3 tablespoons unsalted butter, plus more for greasing

3 pounds ground Italian sausage

2 teaspoons kosher salt, plus more to taste

1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, plus more to taste

16 slices provolone cheese

1 bunch broccoli rabe, stemmed and cut into 1-inch pieces

1 each red and green bell pepper, seeded and sliced

1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced

3/4 cup mayonnaise

2 cloves garlic, finely grated

12 sesame seed buns, toasted

Preparation

01Preheat oven to 400 F and grease a rimmed baking sheet with butter. Mix sausage, salt and pepper in large bowl until just combined. Press sausage mixture into an even layer on prepared baking sheet. Bake until golden brown, or until the internal temperature reaches 155 F, about 10 to 13 minutes. Top evenly with provolone and continue to bake until melted, about 2 to 3 minutes.
02Meanwhile, melt butter in large skillet over medium-high heat. Add broccoli rabe, peppers and onions and cook, stirring frequently until tender, about 4 to 6 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
03Combine mayonnaise and garlic in small bowl. Cut sausage mixture into 12 square patties.
04Spread mayonnaise mixture on both sides of buns. Top each bottom bun with patties and vegetables mixture. Serve and enjoy
